Short post to follow up on the censorship I have posted about before. Just straight from the mouth of James Cameron, China just censored Titanic 3D….
Reason: They are afraid that during the “sex” scene with the handprint in the car scene was so risque that the government was afraid that men will try to reach and take the hand, and it would be distracting for other viewers.
Another semester has come and gone. It is been a very slow and stressful semester for me. I have learned a lot this semester though in all my classes. Such as my limits and what I can accomplish in 1 semester effectiently. I have also learned much from all my classes. I have increased my ability to understand and write Japanese. I have learned much about the internet and how the technology was created and about the founders. I also, I have to admit reenforced my dislike of blogging and twittering, (lol). I also learned much about the global economy in my MacroEconomics class. The final class I took this semester did not teach me much, but got me to learn things about topics I would not see or research on my own to write analytical papers about the topics. I was highly challenged more than I thought I was going to this semester, and it was a great learning experience. I did enjoy all my classes but the sheer amount of things I need to keep track of was a bit much for me on a daily basis that things sometimes fell through the cracks. I thank you for the experience and the class. It was great to get to know those of you I did get to talk to during class, I hope your semester went well for you.
I am going to tackle the ds106 assignment New Emerging Technology Writing Assignment this time because it is a topic I am highly interested in its future on. Over the past few years there has been a rise in making games and game systems more appealing to a wider audience. First in started years ago with Handheld gaming, because well not everyone had the television or the technology for the core systems. To open it up to those people they made smaller and portable gaming electronics. Recently Nintendo released the Nintendo 3DS which is just a Nintendo DS (which in turn is a touch screen Game Boy) with the added technology of a 3D screen it has made it more immersive for the player to get into the game and experience games from the past in a new portable 3D fashion. On top of the pretty impressive 3D camera and screen of the game, the system came with a gyroscope which allowed the player to take actions by being able to move the system in a full spherical manner all the x, y, and z plane angles. It is an impressive addition which makes for example the aiming of a bow and arrow in the Zelda: Ocarina of Time very entertaining for me, as I love archery in real life, no more trying to get a joystick just right to aim and shoot I can just move the system to where I want to aim and it does so. Sony also just came out with their newest system Sony Vita which has a front and back touch screen adding more “contact” with the environment of the game. Having not experienced much with the Vita system and the lack of options available at the moment I have not tried it myself to give a full analysis at this time.
Now even the core systems of the Wii, X360 and Playstation 3 has followed this new trend of immersion gaming. The Wii started the trend with its wiimote and nunchuck and motion sensor addition, they allowed the character to get off their bum and actually move around while playing. The Wii didn’t exactly take off with this new idea, because gamers for the most part are inheriently lazy and just want to get home after a day of work or school and just sit on their bum and mash buttons. Then a bit later Xbox and Playstation got their own motion sensing gaming apparatuses because finally people were having fun at parties or with family with these interactive gaming. The Xbox did the best in innovation with this idea of immersion then Sony or Nintendo could due but as most technology is it has it’s faults. The Xbox immersion device is called the Kinect, and you the player actually become the controller, a motion sensor camera will get calibrated to your body frame on first use, then all times after that as long as it is a Kinect game you are the controller and all movements you do your character on screen follow suit. This type of device is really good for dancing games as it makes it interactive and though it is highly accurate… sometimes you might find your knee on the screen is twisting in an unnatural way. The Playstation Move is very much a ripoff of the Wii controllers, but it being Sony and having a greater pool of technicians it is more accurate then the Wiimote which after its initial flop Nintendo added an additional gyroscope for added accuracy for the wiimotes.
The reason I went with this topic is because I am highly interested in seeing the future of this technology, maybe in a few more years we will have real fully immersive gaming systems with true virtual reality connection where we can actually look around the game enviroment as if we were actually in it.
It has been about a decade since I have played Diablo 2 or Counter-Strike. They are probably my most enjoyable games from the years of 1998-2003. Having joined the Navy in 2004, I found less time to play these games, I also found myself absorbed in the addictive world of MMORPG’s with FFXI and off and on WoW. Luckily this year is going to be a revisiting of those fun years of competition and dungeon crawling for demons. The reason for this is Diablo 3, after being in “development” for 10+ years since Diablo 2 was released, is finally seeing a release date next month with a new engine and a story 20 or so years after the death of Diablo in the last game. I am interested to see where they go with the story in this installment since in the last one Diablo and his brothers were dead forever or so the story goes. I have long awaited this game and will soon be able to play it with fervor.
Counter-Strike was my first and still only number 1 FPS I have played, because the competion is actually based off skill then a rank up system seen now a days in FPS’s making longer players more “skilled”( better equipped) then new players. In Counter-Strike everyone is held at the same level and access, with the only upper hand is players that have been in the round longer, therefore having a bigger wallet to buy the better items. The good thing is on the next round everyone starts out on equal footing again. Though not given a release date yet, it is closer than Half-Life “3″ is with still no news on that game, it has been announced by Valve that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be released in 2012 providing me with end of year enjoyment of the new map/playstyle. They added a new playstyle taken from the player modding community of competition based on weapons, as a players kills people they “move up” in the gun chain, eventually leading to the player only using a Knife. The most advanced players favorite weapon, and who ever makes it to the knife weapon first and makes a kill with it wins the round, making it a race to win as well as making harder to kill your opponents. It is an interesting playstyle and I look forward to trying it out and increasing my skill so I can once again get into a clan and their server start out at rank 450 and with in a week make it into the top 10 players on the server. I was at one point “lucky”/skilled enough to do multiple rounds of “suicide” runs into the enemies territory and come out of the round as the soul survivor with 1 out of 100 hp left. My most memorable kill from old CS was playing Office (my favorite map) and jumping up to look into a window and getting double headshots in the 1 second I had my head up in veiw. I miss those days and I know when I go into this new installment I have a lot of rust to knock off. I hope to maybe see some of my classmates on these games and team up to wreck havoc.
World of Warcraft the highest selling MMORPG in the world, with over 10.000,000 players worldwide, was introduced by the Chinese government some years ago. There was of course roadblocks and modifications for all the changes and implementations within the game. China’s government has a huge taboo about the dead and bones, and for fear of little kids being scared by these images in the cartoony graphics of WoW. The government of China only allowed the introduction to the country after they did a long series of taboo checking beta tests. Oh there was bones? We do not like that please modify it with bags of sand on dirt. There is a race of undead? We can not allow that to be true it is too scary, so please make them anorexic human beings with glowing eyes. There is blood as well? Please change that to a black oily sludge please, red liquids are too scary.
I make these sarcastic statements, even though the actions are true behind them within China. I find it a bit to overbearing for a country to do this. The game sells though and people enjoy playing the game.
With my internet being down for the weekend at my apartment, I have to use 7Spot wifi and until I can get my pc back online to upload my works it is hard to finish everything. Also my time ran up and cut me off halfway typing this. Originally written Saturday and still no Internet I need to talk to ntt about this problem.
This is a symbol for me for years, and as Iconic Me assigned me to do I have uploaded an image of it. The KST on the points of the cross mean to me the three core values of my life, Knowledge, Strength and Truth. The Scythe is for my number of seven and luck as well as Strength. The cloth has many meanings the waviness of at the bottom of the hanging cloth symbolizes wings and lightheartedness. The other meaning is the left side if for knowledge and the right side is for truth, the cloth is suppose to be 2 toned blue for Knowledge and green for truth. The strong meaning of Knowledge, Strength and Truth is, Have the knowledge to know what you are doing, or of a situation. Strength to fulfill and stand up to what you are doing and to life. Finally Truth is to know what is really occuring and the truth of the matters you are working in and behind your actions.
In this photo I took back in 2005, it was always interesting to me. As you can see there is no lights behind my person but if you look to the left of my head there is a lightish orb as well as a slightly lighter frame of shoulders standing to my left. I took this photo while at my US Navy school in the swamp lands outside of Charleston, South Carolina. When I noticed this by brightining the image it was rather intriguing to me to investigate the photo and show my friends to see what they would say. So when I saw the topic in Visual Assignments, “IS THAT A GHOST?!…” I decided this picture would fit well. Hope you all enjoy and can see what I see.
If needed I can upload a brightened photo later.
Bandwidth of the Daily Create Page has been exceeded. I do not think it is from people tagging in their blogs. I have always checked back previous days and its always the same guy posting 10 photo’s of nothing to do with the topic every day. It is highly annoying to flip through 2 pages of his picture posts, just to get to something that has to do with the actual Daily Create. Let us hope the problem is resolved soon, so that those of us that found it fun, be able to continue.
As shown above internet is more used among the younger generations as internet was introduced in their lives and generational internet, while the adults started with just dial-up and limited things to do and having a none internet based younger life they do not spend nearly as much time on the internet. Unlike the teenage generation where they grow up on the internet and doing almost everything through the internet, therefore having a greater showing.
China has a greater showing of internet user’s than Denmark, though the reasoning behind it is not exactly clear, but from internet experience more Chinese escape the hardships of their life by getting on the internet and playing MMORPG’s that the government limits internet usage to it’s citizen’s during a day.
The final point shows a drastic rise in the amount of time spend daily on social networking sites. This is due to the rise of many more social networking webpages and the interconnection of them, as well as the rise of smartphones and iPhone app’s allowing connection anytime anywhere being easily available to consumers. For me I am always on Facebook, not because I am sitting there in front of my computer just stalking facebook, it is because of my browser being a “Facebook browser” I am always signed in, as well as on my phone. The other reason I believe for the rise in time spent is on the games added to social networking sites so that “friends can trade virtual sheep” to one another, (thank you The Big Bang Theory for that) Another reason why most time is rising is increasing is the sites are also becoming a hub to plan event’s over the internet among friends and co-worker’s. The internet has been growing more expansive for the past decade to accommodate easier communication in a highly digital age of human history.
